Off to Oklahoma!

I will be leaving to go visit my friend Amanda and her Heather (not be confused with my Heather) tomorrow evening and I couldn't be more excited! I have free time during the year, sure, and I also have a little more free time during summer sometimes but it never feels like a vacation. That "free time" always ends up feeling like the time between gigs. Going away for two weeks, however, without Zira (my horn) feels entirely like a vacation. It also helps that I don't know anyone except Amanda and her Heather and their families so the probability that I would be asked to do some kind of music-making is slim to none.

I'm also really looking forward to AnimeFest, which is the other reason I'm going down there. It's especially awesome because Amanda's made my costume and though I haven't seen most of it yet I'm looking forward to trying it on.

Things to do before I go:

- double check my packing list
- put in the cheque I got today
- get out American money
- buy one (1) book at Chapters to tide me over for the trip
- buy a few ebooks to supplement the one from Chapters
- buy travel toothbrush/toothpaste to stick in purse
- clean and de-clutter my rooms

I think that's enough to put on the list for now.

Oh oh oh! I get to meet my Heather's sister's new puppy tomorrow. Her name is Chelsea (the puppy, not the sister). I've seen pictures and she is the cutest thing ever!

Ok, I have to go get things done now and am sadly feeling tired but must achieve things anyway.

The books arrived! Sandstorm and Dance with the Devil!

Books books books books books books books books!!!!

Missing one, but still, boooooooks!!!

*dances with glee*

Now I'm off to go watch Doctor Who with oddsocks. Will be reading books on the transit. Life is wonderful!

In twenty minutes my friend Julie's recital will start and I'll be in there listening. Yay! I haven't heard another horn player play since the last SPO concert and that was orchestral, not a solo recital. I haven't seen Julie since the end of school either so it'll be wonderful to see her and hear her play. She had to reschedule her recital because, frustratingly, she got sick a day or two before her recital date.

So I'm lounging in a comfy armchair in the lobby of the RCM, typing away at my laptop, feeling slightly sleepy from actually having done stuff today. I've been lazing around lately so I'm feeling great about actually accomplishing things today. I got up early, cleared out the garbage, and then made the trek downtown. BaSusan couldn't go to lunch with me but that was okay since I ended up taking my time to eat and then managed an hour and a half of practising where I mostly played warm-up things from the Farkas book.

Oh, by the way, if anyone wants any insight into horn playing/history/mentality or just a funny book then I totally recommend I Found My Horn by Jasper Rees. It's awesome. I'm borrowing it from BaSusan but I think I'll go search for a copy for myself so I can buy it.

Ok, time to go inside and listen to some horn! Hurrah!

Wallpaper meme

Hm, been a while since I've written and this meme looked interesting.

01. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their livejournal.
02. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
03. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

so many colours by ~rastilho on deviantART

I was getting bored with my previous wallpaper and wanted something really colourful so I browsed around deviantArt for a while. I ended up finding a whole slew of pictures that were really pretty but this one seemed to fit the best. It's not only very colourful but isn't so incredibly bright that it burns my retinas just to look at it. It's interesting to look at, inspiring, and makes me want to be creative.

omg Free!

The last school concert was yesterday! I'm officially done school! *dances*

I think I'm going to go eat breakfast, practise a little, and then possibly go make some icons just because I love the pretty pictures and I have the time to do it. Oh, also, thank you God for it being an absolutely lovely day today. I can go and eat ice cream and go for a walk with my friend but before that there will be spontaneous chamber music with cello! Hehehehe.

Seriously, I'm so happy right now!

Mock Audition

Done! I believe I played quite well, definitely nailed the Bach B minor mass excerpt and wasn't one of the two to pass onto the second round. Not that I wanted to pass onto the second round, really, because that would have meant sitting around for much longer and playing more excerpts when all I really want to do is go home.

So I am home and school is officially done! The only thing I forgot to do was write my New Music Ensemble report, which I shall have to do today when I feel like it. Right now I feel so good about finishing that I just want to go read. I also feel the need to buy books and I do have a Chapters gift card that I got from the choir at church... Unfortunately, the books I really want to buy are not being sold by Chapters. My birthday's coming up so I might treat myself to buying a book I really want from AmaSour. I just re-read Sandstorm and reminded myself why I loved it in the first place. Now I think I'll go re-read Prisoner. Maybe I should get Midnight, if I'm buying myself a present, because I haven't read it yet... I deeply love everything else there, though, so it will be difficult to choose what I would get first. I will get all of them eventually. Oh yes, I will have them all! *cackle*

Ok, off to treat myself to a little reading and finally able to reply to my rping e-mails which I have sadly neglected for the end-of-school activities (aka. exams, performances, etc.)

Oh, if anyone's interested or nearby there's going to be a chamber music concert at the RCM of GGS ensembles starting at 11:00am, I believe. My group, Whirlwinds, will be playing the Poulenc sextet at 12:00 if anyone wants to drop by for a free concert. There's other stuff on the program but I have no idea what it is other than Barber's Summer Music played by the Dorothy Quintet. It'll be entertaining listening, I think, even if it's simply because we'll be sort of/maybe/kind of winging the last movement of the Poulenc. Sunny is an amazing pianist and we are so thankful for the amount of pain blood tears work she's put into the piece, whose piano part is simply massive and difficult.

Note to self: Iris, you have an eclectic taste and therefore have many different styles of music in your iTunes. Listen indiscriminately!

One down

One more to go! That would be the mock audition tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. I have all the excerpts at least. I actually can't believe I found all of them and didn't have to resort to printing stuff off of hornexcerpts.org.

Also, excruciatingly hungry. I don't know how or why I allowed myself to be persuaded to wait until the chicken wellington was baked/cooked. Better be the best chicken wellington I've ever had.

It's probably bad that instead of studying for an exam that is tomorrow I am reading lovely lovely fiction.

I'm also tired. Debating whether it's more worth it to go to bed now and get up early to study instead.

Spring cleaning?

I've finally given in and decided to clean my room...or one of my rooms, at least. Leander, of course, has decided that he will watch me from my very messy couch as I vacuum, mop, and rearrange furniture.

I'll keep you posted on how things are going.
